The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) and the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) have sought financial assistance from the Ministry of Finance in an attempt to stay afloat, The Morning learnt.

Cabinet approval has been sought by the two institutions to obtain the necessary financial allocations from the Treasury, Ministry of Finance Public Enterprise Department (PED) Director General P.A.S. Athula Kumara told The Morning.

“Once Cabinet approval has been granted, the necessary arrangements would be made to provide financial assistance to the two state institutions,” he said.

According to Kumara, the two institutions had sought around Rs. 60 million each.

When asked whether the Treasury has enough funds to provide the requested allocations, Kumara noted that, based on Cabinet approval , the necessary arrangements would be made to provide financial assistance either through the Consolidated Fund or via a bank loan facility.
