Education Minister Professor G. L. Pieris today said that the government expects to use Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine manufactured in the UK during the first week of February.

“We are hoping to use the COVID-19 vaccine manufactured in the UK in the first week of February,” he said at a news briefing while commenting on reopening of schools.

Earlier, Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control State Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle stated that inoculation will commence from mid-February and that it would be done free of charge.

She said Sri Lanka currently possesses the necessary facilities for transportation and storage of the vaccine.
