British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Sarah Hulton said that she “raised respect for human rights and due process” in line with the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) during a wide-ranging discussion yesterday (28) with President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
On her official Twitter handle, the High Commissioner said that she is looking forward to strengthening the UK-Sri Lanka relationship within a peaceful, democratic, and inclusive space.
This meeting came one day after President Wickremesinghe met with US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung to discuss how Sri Lanka arrived at this point of economic and political crisis and how the two countries could work together to navigate towards a brighter future for all.
“Our countries and our people have been friends and partners for more than 70 years, relationships that will flourish in a Sri Lanka that embraces good governance, respects human rights, and listens to the aspirations of its people,” the US envoy said on Twitter.
