Visakha shine in the waters yet again

Visakha Vidyalaya emerged victorious in the National Age Group – Artistic Swimming Championships 2022 organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) during the weekend.    The tournament was held on 24 and 25 September 2022 at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex. Visakha Vidyalaya clinched the championship title with a total of 23 points. Ladies’ College finished second with a total points tally of 17 points.    The 10 Visakhians who took part in the tournament were coached by Prabashi and Yeshaya.    Results – solo events  Age group 12 and under – Sandithi Ekanayake (Musaeus College)  Ages between 13-15 years – Piyushi Kulasekara (Visakha Vidyalaya) Junior (15-18 years) – Nischka Nanayakkara (Ladies’ College)  Open/Senior – Tanalia Rekawa (Ladies’ College)   Winners in the duet category  Ages between 13-15 years – Piyushi Kulasekara and Manekha Gomez (Visakha Vidyalaya) – a total score of 114.3780 points  Junior age group – Lourdi Perera and Jithmi Perera (Aurora Synchro Club) – a total score of 111.7290 points    The National and Junior National Swimming Championships 2022 will be held from 4 to 7 October 2022 at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.   HEAD 2: 7 Sri Lankans picked up for Abu Dhabi T10 League   A total of seven Sri Lankan cricketers have been drafted to play in the sixth edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League which is scheduled to be played from 23 November to 4 December.   The player draft of the Abu Dhabi T10 League was held on Monday (26). The franchises were allowed to retain and sign players prior to the player draft. Wanindu Hasaranga, Dasun Shanaka, Bhanuka Rajapaksha, Maheesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana were all picked in the pre-draft direct-acquisition process. Two Sri Lankan national stars, Dushmantha Chameera and Chamika Karunaratne were picked during the player draft. The two new teams are New York Strikers and the Morrisville SAMP Army. With the two new additions, the competition will expand into eight teams. All eight teams will play each other in the preliminary round and the top four teams will qualify for the playoffs.   HEAD 3: SL women thrash Bhutan in SABA opener    Sri Lanka Women’s Basketball team began their title defence of the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Women’s Championship with an easy win over Bhutan by 98 – 33.    Sri Lanka dominated possession from the word go as they used the height advantage to block their opponents’ chances of scoring any points. Bhutan gave a good fight in the first couple of minutes of the first quarter but the defending champions were almost perfect in their defense and offense which helped them take the game away.    After complete dominance in the first two quarters, Sri Lanka opted to give an opportunity to fringe players to get much-needed game time on the court   Top scorers Sasanthi Samarasinghe (27 points) Epciba Washington Clay (17 points) Benika Thalagala (14 points)   Most rebounds Sasanthi Samarasinghe (19) Lubna Morseth (11) Kamalene Mills (7)
