Visitations to prisons allowed again under health guidelines

05 Feb 2021

The people are allowed to visit inmates at prisons with effect from 01 February under COVID-19 preventive health guidelines and regulations, the Prisons Department said today. The process was earlier suspended due to the spread of Covid 19 virus in prisons. "Visitations are allowed at the prisons where Covid 19 infected residents are not reported from 01 February on the health instructions of the Deputy Director of Health Services, subject to several conditions," Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said. Accordingly,  each suspect would be given the opportunity to see one member of the immediate family once a week. All prisoners are given the opportunity to see their relatives once a month. The Prisons department has only given the permission to provide clothes brought by the relatives for the suspects.
