Wild elephants damage property and paddy in Anuradhapura

15 Jul 2021

Video evidence has revealed that the wild elephants that had arrived in the Sandamal Eliya area in Tantirimale, Anuradhapura last night (14) had severely damaged three houses and destroyed the paddy. Villagers say wild elephants regularly roam the village. Although an elephant fence has been set up and officials have been assigned to do so, villagers say that wild elephants roam the villages by evening. Despite informing the Tantirimale Wildlife Office, the villagers point out that a proper solution has not yet been found. "Today we have no rice to eat. Our paddy has been destroyed. Without the police we would not be alive. The wildlife would not have come to the area," they said.
