19 May 2021

Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekera, Minister of Public Security today (19) stated in Parliament that this government, which ended the 30 year war 12 years ago, will never allow terrorism and extremism to rise up and will bring the perpetrators of the Easter attack to justice. The Minister said that the Easter attack was one of the most devastating attacks in the world in 2019 and that it would take time to bring the perpetrators to justice as the prosecution process needs to be carried out in a meticulous manner. The Minister said that the police had handed over eight files related to the Easter attacks to the Attorney General and that he had personally met with the Attorney General and discussed the matter. He also submitted the report of the Presidential Commission to the Attorney General this year. He said that the evidence and facts were studied in depth with the officials of the Attorney General's Department and after filing other necessary reports and deficiencies and submitting them to the Attorney General, legal action could be taken in this regard.
