Woman in possession of hand grenade arrested

A 39 year old woman in possession of a live hand grenade has been arrested by the Meegahawatte Police today (14).

The Morning learns that the grenade was handed over to the woman nearly 8 years ago by her brother, who had asked her to bury it in her backyard.

While speaking to The Morning, Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that while the woman has been arrested, her brother is yet to be taken into police custody.

“The brother is on the run and Meegahawatte Police is currently looking out for him. Investigations are being carried out in order to find out where this live grenade was taken from, how it was taken and what was the purpose of hiding it for over 8 years,” said Thalduwa.

He also confirmed that the live hand grenade has been handed over to the Special Task Force (STF) and will be defused tomorrow (15).
