World Bank to help SL tourism

By Dinitha Rathnayake   The World Bank has extended its support to assist in boosting the tourism industry in Sri Lanka which has collapsed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Morning learnt. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the World Bank has focused on developing strategic plans under the formulation of the National Policy on Tourism and the launch of the Sustainable Tourism Zones Introduction Programme in Sri Lanka, the latter of which is a new mobile app for tourists and is in the final stages of creation. The Sigiriya and Yala Tourism Zones are expected to be developed as Sustainable Tourism Zones under the Sustainable Tourist Destination Promotion Programme. The World Bank is ready to extend its continued support to the development of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and the Government of Sri Lanka at any time, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
