YouCon 2.0: A convention on YouTubing and content creation

Sri Lanka’s YouCon 2.0 – International YouTubing and Content Creation Conference concluded on 5 July. Organised by AIESEC in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the event took place from 2-5 July and included a series of webinars and virtual concerts designed to bring together youth and professional YouTubers to share ideas and exchange knowledge.

The conference aims to create a knowledge-sharing platform for aspiring local and international YouTubers who are looking to discover new arenas in YouTubing and give them a platform to share insight and gain perspective to create effective and desirable content for YouTube. YouCon 2.0 – International Youtubing and Content Creation Conference is mutually aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Sustainable Development Knowledge platform.

The conference featured local and international speakers who focused on many valuable topics related to YouTubing and content creation, covering all aspects from the basics of starting a YouTube channel to enriching and enhancing content as a seasoned YouTube creator. Speakers in the conference included popular local and international YouTubers and experts of the field such as Nawran, Travel with Wife, Malinda Alahakoon, Janai Priyai, KALU, SL Geek, Vini Productions, FTT, Janeeth Rodrigo, ManiYa, Hirushi Jayasena, Sajeewa Dissanayake, and Dinuka Wijesinghe.

The conference also showcased successful YouTube icons and content creators like The Urban Fight, Siddharth Kannan, GadgetByte, and Pascal Basel.

In addition to the talks and webinars, YouCon 2.0 also featured the YouCon Studio – A Virtual Musical Extravaganza, which featured two live-streamed concerts featuring local and international music artists.
The first session featured local music artists Dinesh Gamage, Sadara Bandara, Ravi Jay, Kanchana Anuradhi, Gayan Udawatta, Ridma Weerawardena, T.M. Jayarathna, Edward Jayakody, Infinity, and Drill Team. The second session featured international music artists Ritu Agarwal, DJ Shaan, Srushti Barlewar, and Electro Doctors.

The first edition of YouCon in Sri Lanka was held in December last year as a physical event taking place among prominent YouTubers and content creators of Sri Lanka. The event attracted an audience of about 200. This year’s event was made virtual in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. YouCon 2.0 has received an astounding response with over 100,000 total views and counting.

YouCon – International is a novel initiative by AIESEC in Jayewardenepura. AIESEC is the world’s leading youth leadership development organisation.
